El Potosi: Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Chicago

We stopped in on a whim while driving past and am so glad we did. Every one is so friendly - especially the staff, who bend over backwards to make sure you are happy and dogs are allowed on the quaint patio too! Beyond the friendly staff, and the decorated patio, the food is great. Solid authentic Mexican food that is above average for your local taco joint. It's cash only, affordable and BYOB This spot is definitely worth a visit!

Came in on a search for Menudo… the owner served me a dish to try and I needed up leaving with 5 orders! 12 tacos and a happy soul

Was craving Mexican food and stumbled into El Potosi. This family owned business provides you with friendly service and good food. I recommend both burrito and the enchiladas. Will be headed back soon!

This is a wonderful hole in the wall with quick food. They have really great hospitality and did I mention the food was delicious?! Super glad I stumbled upon this place it’s really quaint small and pleasant.

I am absolutely distraught to learn that El Potosí will be closing its doors sometime next month (potentially the first weekend of January, though they're not sure yet), and want to use this forum to express how beloved they are, at least by me. Not only is the food here delicious and made from scratch in the most extensive way possible, and with a truly homestyle approach to cooking, but everyone involved at El Potosí is basically family! They are an incredibly generous and loving crew who are always glad to give whatever they can to the people who walk through their doors, they love to chat and welcome you into their space, and they are some of the most special and hardworking people you will ever meet, especially Maria (who prepares basically every order). They will be sorely missed, so please support them before they're gone. This city is changing for the worse, and it has been a great fortune to the people of Irving Park/Avondale that El Potosí has been open for 28 wonderful years.

I absolutely love this place! I enjoy going to this restaurant becuase its a true mom and pop place.There food is so fresh.The customer service is outstanding. I just moved over here about 5 months now and today i found out that they will have to close down after 30 years of being in this location. As I was leaving the restaurant , the lady making my food, came to me and had a heartfelt conversation! It made me sad to see and hear what is going on to these little mom and pop shops.

Best pollo burrito I've ever had. Fresh chicken, great tortilla, perfectly cooked. Super friendly people and great food.
